The 2023 FOMT Calendar Photo Contest

Last Day to Submit Entries is September 30, 2022

The public, including FOMT members, is invited to submit photo candidates for the 2023 Mariners Trail Calendar. Calendar sale proceeds support the community volunteer flower beds along the trail.

Contest Rules

ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONS ONLY: Other forms cannot be accepted. (Instructions below)

ENTRY DEADLINE: September 30, 2022. Entries received AFTER this date will NOT be considered.

ENTRY LIMIT: 5 per person.

FORMAT: Digital photos only – JPEG or TIFF format; LANDSCAPE (horizontal) orientation only.

PHOTO QUALITY:

  • Subject must be in sharp focus.
  • Photo must be capable of enlargement to 8 1⁄2” x 11” without blurring or pixelation.
    • HINT: If the photo is not sharp and clear on a large laptop or desktop screen, it won’t be publication-quality.


PHOTO THEMES ALLOWED:

  • HUMAN ACTIVITIES IN ALLOWED CONTEST GEOGRAPHIC AREAS: biking, walking, running, skating, festivals, pets with owners on trail, people socializing, etc.
  • SEASONAL: appropriate for months in the calendar, including holiday themes.
  • NATURESCAPES: flower beds, sculptures, wildlife, lake views, etc.


GEOGRAPHIC LIMITS FOR PHOTOS (the only areas considered):

  • SOUTH: 10th St. Bridge east to south pier light; Riverfront between Quay St. and Maritime Dr.
  • NORTH: Neshotah BEACH (NOT park proper) and East Twin River up to 22nd St. Bridge.
  • SHORELINE: Any view from Mariners Trail to Lake Michigan – between the above.

Judging and Prizes

JUDGING: A panel chooses 13 calendar photos and 3-4 honorable mentions by mid-October.

RESULTS: Will be published on FOMT website, and winners notified by email or phone.

PRIZES: Cover and 1st place – $100; 2nd place – $75; and 3rd place – $50, plus a free calendar to each.

My electronic submission of photos means that:

  • I agree to the above contest rules.
  • I certify that I have usage rights to all images submitted, as well as consent from all identifiable subjects in my photos.
  • I give permission for the FOMT calendar committee to make minor editing and/or brightness/color adjustments, and/or format changes to my submitted photos for optimal publication quality.
  • I grant FOMT permission to use my photos in the calendar, for other Mariners Trail fundraising, for use on the FOMT website, and for Lakeshore area publicity.
